Those who did make the trip were rewarded with an outdoor experience that seems to have also delivered a much-needed sense of well-being. And so it’s an opportunity for families and people to get out of their homes, many of them for the first time in a long time.” So it’s been easy to maintain social distancing. “We’re very fortunate that we’ve got 28 acres here. Visitors to Lavender Valley Farm in Parkdale snap an idyllic picture So it did afford us a little more time than some of the other businesses that opened earlier,” remembers Ojeda. Thankfully for us, our season starts in May. “In February and March, we were really unsure if we were going to be able to open. Lavender Valley also experienced that uncertainty. The COVID-19 pandemic made 2020 a challenging year to be in almost any kind of business. “Seventy-five plants would give us about a half a gallon. “Unlike some of the other varieties that produce (about) two gallons,” Ojeda notes. That perfume-like profile comes at a price in the volume of essential oils collected. It’s almost like a perfume quality,” says Ojeda. And it has a very light pink to purple-ish flower so it’s really beautiful, but also produces some of the most floral fragrance. “We’re fortunate enough here in Hood River (Valley) to be able to grow it. ![]() One variety that was developed on the farm is called “Mellissa,” named for the wife of the former grower. Legend has it that Cleopatra seduced Mark Antony with the fragrance, and many health practitioners swear by the scent’s calming effect. Honey produced by these bees has a distinct lavender aroma and subtle tasteĪs versatile as the hydrosol is, the real treasure is the oil. “We’ve got some of the farmers coming in, buying it in big quantities (to) wash their horses down because it’s a natural mosquito and insect repellant,” he says. Ojeda calls the hydrosol a “miracle” product that can be bottled as linen spray, skin toner, and window cleaner. Once harvested, a steam distillation process releases and carries oil molecules from the flower buds, then separates the essential oil from a lavender distillate known as hydrosol, as it cools. He’s really mastered the art of pruning it and shaping it.” “Unlike many other shrubs where you can kind of cut them back hard, lavender isn’t as forgiving. “It’s really important when you’re pruning a lavender plant to leave a little bit of the new growth,” Ojeda says. If these twin tasks aren’t done correctly, it can have dire consequences for the plant. “Geronimo is very adept at, we call it, giving it the haircut, (because) not only is he harvesting, but he’s actually pruning at the same time,” says Ojeda. Geronimo Hurtado has mastered the tricky task of pruning and harvesting lavender in one fell swoop His small team includes Geronimo Hurtado, an expert horticulturist in the area. This piece of paradise is where Francisco Ojeda spends his summers managing farm operations from growing, to harvesting and pruning, to production, bottling and marketing. A small gift shop offers soaps, balms and even lavender honey, all produced on-site. For a nominal parking fee, visitors can snap selfies that appear to be set in a fairy tale and cut aromatic bundles to carry home. Located in Parkdale, the 28-acre growing operation cultivates 11 varieties of lavender and doubles as a day-trip destination between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Now imagine all of that as the foreground to an unobstructed vista of Mount Hood and you have Lavender Valley Farm. Many of the map’s destinations will guide you to luscious purple fields, saturated with a dizzying combination of floral perfume and bee hum. The Oregon Lavender Association lists 45 member farms, and even provides a map for “lavender tourism,” with destinations in northern, central and southern Oregon. It was kind of an overnight thing … She did something to my family it felt like she did something, you know, to me. When we were friends, we never thought that we wouldn’t be friends. Khloé later notes that she doesnt speak to Jordyn and that Kylies former BFF didnt apologised in person to her for what had happened.Īs for Kylie, the mother-of-one says she has spoken to Jordyn about the fall out. How could I forgive Tristan and not Jordyn? That sounds asinine in my opinion. I think people make mistakes, people live and they learn and I forgive both parties. I don’t have any grudge against Jordyn, Khloé says. That’s also the thing where some narratives aren’t as fun to pass around and spread like wild fire, she notes. When questioned why she hadnt given the same pass to Jordyn as she had to Tristan, following speculation the pair were back together until it was recently announced theyd parted ways again, Khloé says she was happy the question had been asked given the huge misconception thats followed the incident. Khloé also notes: ‘There has been times that I think maybe what I was going through – because you could also say Kourtney and Scott at the beginning there was so much going on in their lives – but sometimes I will say Kim and I have had this conversation really openly – we feel like we have given so much and we feel like others have not held up their end of the deal too. Its believed Travis and Kourtney were dating while KUWTK was filming its final season but no one commented on the romance and the musician didn’t appear in a single episode. ‘We were not even allowed to talk about it, I am not saying put him on but Kourtney wouldn’t even let us mention – even though there were paparazzi photos, we were frustrated we couldn’t even talk about what Kourtney was doing,’ she added, alluding to Barker. After collecting 8 hearts, you can exchange them for rewards by clicking on the three card symbol with a ribbon on the right side of the interface. If your friends want, they can also visit your farm every day. It says with their hardened sprockets and chain, it won't ever stretch but should I still install a tensioner?" I think I will wait until after my move in January though.Īnyone have any experience with the Hughes double timing chains? It says with their hardened sprockets and chain, it won't ever stretch but should I still install a tensioner? The truck isn't my main vehicle so I can take my time and drive the Stratus. Well, I think I will just give it a shot. Wow! $550? I new I saved some by doing it myself but didn't know it was that much. Warranty labor rates are usually 20 under customer pay too. Maintaining timing alignment is not all that difficult if you are careful and follow the manual. You've alread gone as far as replacing you water pump and when you've gone that far, you are about 50% of the way done. I just did the same thing in about 6 hrs. I just had a plenum gasket replaced under warranty and that ran $550 just for labor. I don't have a flat rate book so that's only a guess. I would say that they would charge you around 6 hours plus parts. may give you a lil more info on whether you wanna tackle it or not. Larry did a how-to on this fairly recently as well. If I do take it to have it done, how many hours of labor can I expect to pay? I will thoroughly study the service manual first. As far as the front oil seal, I don't really know anything about it. ![]() I don't know if I would be prepared to do the oil pan. I got it done but it is much more difficult doing it laying on your back than doing it on a lift. Also, I spent a day last weekend dropping the transmission pan and putting it back on wih a new filter. I don't know how to check the timing if I can't get the new chain and sprockets on the same as the old ones. Perhaps this is one I should leave to the professionals. If you don't have the timing right, cam and crank get out of alignment, you will have to do it over again. If you are not careful you could also end up replacing the front oil seal on the cover. Little things like tearing the front of the oil pan gasket can mean additional work and you should plan on having things like an extra gasket. I would plan on spending a weekend doing it unless you have done it before. For most people this is at least an all day job. Most of the time the sprockets will come off with nothing more than using two large screwdivers or similar prying devices. I plan on using the Hughes high performance double timing chain and sprockets.Īny advice? How hard of a job is this really? How hard are the timing chain sprockets to remove? Does it take a special tool or do they come off easily after removing the housing? I also replaced my water pump successfully.ĭo those of you with experience replacing the timing chain think I should undertake that project? Is it a much more difficult job than the intake gaskets? I certainly can't afford to pay the labor to have the chain replaced since I am about to start on my first mortgage on a brand new house. ![]() I do my own oil changes and brakes and things of that nature. This study provides additional evidence that splinting is preferable to casting for the treatment of distal radial buckle fractures.I am a somewhat experienced shadetree mechanic. ![]() With the exception of pain reported in the emergency department being higher for the splinted group, all other measures, including convenience, satisfaction, and preference, showed a clear trend favoring splints at almost every time period in the study. Although pain scores were higher for those in the splint group, the difference was not statistically significant. Compared with the cast group, those in the splint group reported higher levels of satisfaction, preference, and convenience on 10-point visual analog scale. We assessed satisfaction, convenience, preference, and pain in the emergency department and at days 1, 3, 7, and 21 after immobilization. Subjects were randomly assigned to short-arm cast or prefabricated wrist splint. We conducted a prospective randomized trial of a convenience sample of patients 2 through 17 years with a radiologically confirmed distal radial buckle fracture. The purposes of this study were (1) to compare cast versus splint for distal radial buckle fractures in terms of parental and patient satisfaction, convenience, and preference and (2) to compare pain reported for cast versus splint. Despite mounting evidence for splinting, the questions of pain, preference, satisfaction, and convenience offer a challenge to changing practice. Accepted immobilization methods include circumferential cast, plaster or prefabricated splint, and soft bandaging. These advantages allow for treatment options that may create confusion for the practitioner. Buckle fractures are inherently stable and at low risk for displacement. ![]() Liquid death sparkling water mango12/30/2023 ![]() Some of these marketing pieces come together quickly, he said, in two weeks or less when “an idea comes out of nowhere.” Other times, a marketing piece can be a six-month-long process. You could even split things into three layers: a layer for the OS (Windows 95, say) a layer for the game engine and then a layer for the game project. Maybe what we really need is a Docker-like abstraction for MAME: the ability to have "base images" for game engines, and then "derivative images" that represent projects loaded into those engines-where you only have to load a new "game engine" layer into the emulator when the game you're playing references a version you don't have cached yet. With things like the Doom engine-or, say, the RPG Maker 2000 runtime-you get to a the point where, to faithfully run a "game" made with these things, your emulator would have to include the original asset bundle that came with the reference engine. If they started down that path, they could maybe go further, and also support the execution of low-level game engine "runtimes" like Löve2D.īut go any further than that, and I'd question whether we're really doing "emulation" of a game using an interpreter, rather than shipping a game engine and loading levels in it.
