Raleigh weather year round12/28/2023 ![]() ![]() This really eases the overcrowding that plagues lots of school systems. With the year round school calendar, our school system can take a building just big enough for 900 students, and use it to educate 1,200 students. What Does The Year Round School Calendar Accomplish?īy following this year round school calendar, our school system can educated 1/3 more students in the buildings and facilities we already have. White are break days for the track in that row. Orange is a day off for all students, and gray signifies weekends. Track 1 is in red, track 2 is in blue, track 3 is in yellow, and track 4 is in green. ![]() Picture from the Wake County Public School System Here’s what our official year-round school calendar example looks like: Three weeks later, track 3 will leave for a break, and track 4 will start school. We have exactly the same amount of time off that traditional schools do, it’s just spread out throughout the year.įor example, the school year starts just after the 4th of July for all year-round schools, but only tracks 1, 2, and 3 will start school that day. The schedule for year round school is designed so that children are in class for 9 weeks, then they get a three week break. Then it basically pisses cold rain and floods shit until the weather gets warm again and hurricane season starts. How does a year round school calendar work? It’s actually less complicated than you’d think.īasically, the school’s population is split into four separate groups: Track 1, Track 2, Track 3, and Track 4.Īt any given point in time on the year-round school calendar, only three of the four tracks are in session at the school while the other track is out on a break. Even without snow, there's ice most of the winter (typically nights after late October with peak shittiness in early to mid February) and no shortage of idiots who can't drive because of black ice or overestimating the winterizing of roads. That doesn't stop the yankees from furiously shoveling their shit for absolutely no reason, however. Insurance season is when we get all the rain/ice/snow, and it varies between "cold" and "just below freezing." It barely snows, typically, and the snow is gone within 72 hours without anyone doing anything because if you hate the weather, give it 5 minutes. It's also when those damned "thankful" signs crop up en masse and wooden cut outs that say "gather" seem to sell out everywhere because the knocked-up Southern moms start nesting. There's really only two seasons: Summer and "Insurance season." We mostly mark Fall by how many leaf peepers bee-line it to the Blue Ridge Parkway to go stare at "purty colurs" before winter shut down, and the increase of churches offering "trunk or treat" events, "holy ghost weenie roasts" or whatever other protest against "the devil" that is Halloween. Regularly over 87 degrees and 60% humidity from mid-June through August. You don't so much breathe the air as swim in it between about May 15th and sometime in early October on average. In Raleigh, summer feels like sitting in an oven under a wet-ass blanket. Know of other NC subreddits? Send us a message.
